Lift Heavy. Trust God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

There is a quiet reverence that blooms whenever we step onto the platform of a gym, barbell in hand, and brace ourselves for the weight that lies ahead. The iron’s stubborn inertia is a literal reminder that not every burden can be moved by sheer will alone; it requires a deeper, steadier source of strength. In the Christian tradition, that source is God—a steadfast anchor who steadies the shoulders that bear our loads. When we lift heavy, we are invited into a physical dialogue with the divine: the muscles we flex become the vessels through which we experience God’s grace, while the act of pushing past physical limits mirrors the spiritual discipline of surrendering our anxieties to Him.

The moment the bar finally rises, breath trembling, we sense a subtle shift—a whisper that the ascent is not merely our own triumph, but a shared victory with a Creator who “gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29). In prayerful preparation, we ask Him to “strengthen our hands” (Psalm 73:24), and in the aftermath, the sweat on our skin becomes a testament to both effort and faith. Thus, each repetition becomes a miniature sermon: as we trust God to carry the weight we cannot shoulder alone, we discover that the heaviest lifts are not measured in pounds, but in the quiet confidence that, no matter how daunting the load, we are never truly lifting alone.
